Career News
6th Years
6th yr. students had the opportunity to attend the Higher Options Careers Exhibition in Dublin September last and most found it to be very useful.
We have also had guest speakers from Waterford Institute of Technology, Carlow IT and the University of Limerick, Maynooth University, DCU and UCD so far this year.
The CAO application process is now open, and students are encouraged to open their account as soon as possible if they have not already done so. Thank you to those that attended the CAO information evening more recently. John Power from WIT gave some useful insights to parents as they help their sons in making choices for after second level.
WIT had their Open Day and 6th years had the opportunity to attend.
HEAR/DARE Information sessions for parents will be held on Saturday 11th, 10.a.m -2p.m Wexford library. Further information can be found on www.accesscollege.ie
During College Awareness week, some senior cycle students visited WWETB. It was a very interesting day and students received lots of information about how the Apprenticeship earn and learn route works as part of a career progression.
1st Years Subject Choice
Our 1st year students have completed the” taster sessions” in option subjects and will be making their subject choice in the coming weeks. We encourage students to ask questions from the subject teachers involved. Useful web sites include www.careersportal.ie and www.qualifax.ie, to assist in finding out further information. Languages can play a huge role in giving students a “competitive edge” when seeking employment and in deed as part of entry requirements for some colleges/courses. We hope students keep this in mind as they are making their application for subject choice.
Transition Years
Our TY students completed their first session of work experience. Well done to all those students that represented their families and our school so well while out on placement.
The second session for work experience will take place In February 2020, commencing on Monday 3rd-14th in advance of the mid term break.
Students need to confirm any details necessary with their work experience employer. Garda vetting is required for primary schools and students need to do this through the Primary School they will be attending.
